Deep Creek Lake

I spent last week in total relaxation mode in Deep Creek Lake, Maryland. So today I'm sharing pictures from the trip! Deep Creek Lake is about a 3 hour drive from Washington, DC and a perfect few day getaway spot.

We stayed for 5 days and I was surprised by how activity packed our days were. (I've never had a vacation at a lake before!) We rented a boat for a day, canoed, went to the beach, played tennis, hiked, played golf, went to the movies, played boardgames, and grilled every night.

^on the water for the day!

^beach day!

^ another hike- can you spot the deer?

Crab Deck

If you're taking a day trip to Kent Island, there's a Crab Deck near the beach that I highly recommend. It's a fun local (i.e. you can wear your bathing suit with a coverup at the deck) spot with great summer drinks.

In my opinion, there is nothing better then eating a lobster after a long day at the beach. But since this is Maryland, it will have to be crabs after the beach :) I had never opened a crab before and wow is it hard work!

Have a great day!

Kent Island Beach

I love living in DC, but when summer rolls around I miss Boston badly. I grew up steps from the ocean and I always appreciated having the beach at my fingertips, but it wasn't until I actually moved away that I truly realized how special it is to live in a beach community. So, I've been determined to find a great beach close DC.

Over Memorial Day weekend I went to Terrapin Park on Kent Island. The beach is small (in width), but long, and only 45 minutes from DC! Besides a few locals walking their dogs, there was no one else around. So considering it was Memorial Day weekend, I would venture to say the beach never gets very crowded. It's a beach on the bay so it's definitely not the same as an ocean side beach, but still worth visiting as a day trip to get out of DC!

Thanks for stopping by!
